General contractors, steel erectors, garage door installers and small fabrication shops go through angle iron, channel and stair parts constantly. SteelFront makes and stocks these in Hutchinson, Kansas and sells them online with prices for every profile, length and finish. You can price a job and order without waiting on a supply-house quote.
What contractors need
- Bolt-together framing that goes up without a welder on site.
- Predictable hole patterns that match standard bolts.
- Lengths that fit the truck and cut down waste.
- Corrosion-resistant finishes for exterior work.
Angle iron, punched and unpunched
Punched angle iron is the backbone of bolt-together framing. SteelFront offers four angle families plus a garage door profile:
- Roll-formed angle, punched for 1/2″ bolts: 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ x 1/8″ or 2″ x 2″ x 1/8″, single or double punch, 0.563″ holes on 2″ centers, raw or pre-galvanized. It’s our most widely used angle.
- Roll-formed angle, unpunched: 11 gauge (1/8″), raw or pre-galvanized.
- Structural angle, punched: A36, 1-1/2″ single punch or 2″ single or double punch, raw or hot dip galvanized.
- Structural angle, unpunched: A36 in six profiles from 1″ x 1″ x 1/8″ to 3″ x 4″ x 1/4″, raw or hot dip galvanized.
All angle comes in 1′, 2′, 6′, 10′, 15′ and 20′ lengths. If you’re comparing grades, see what A36 steel is.
Garage door angle iron
Garage door installers use punched angle to hang openers and brace track. Our garage door angle iron is roll-formed with holes 1″ apart on both legs for 3/8″ bolts. It comes in 1-1/4″ x 1-1/4″ (15 or 14 gauge), 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ (11 gauge) and 2″ x 2″ (11 or 12 gauge) profiles, in raw or pre-galvanized steel and in lengths up to 20′. The longer lengths are useful for installers who cut their own pieces on site.
Channel, tube and pipe
For frames, racks, braces and rails, the Steel Bars and Pipes category includes:
- Structural C-channel (U-bar): A36 in .17″ and .18″ thicknesses, at multiple heights, widths and lengths.
- Square steel tube for frames, racks, sign holders and railing.
- A36 Schedule 40 pipe: easy to weld, for railings, fences, posts and similar work.
Stairs and walkways on the job
For equipment access, temporary platforms or permanent exterior stairs, SteelFront’s 9″ x 26″ bolt-on treads install between stringers:
- Perforated grip treads
- Formed-grated treads
- Bar grating treads
Each style has a matching top step. Weld-on perforated treads come in ten sizes for shop-built stairs. Add walkway pans (26″ or 48″ wide), pitch plates for splicing stair sections, and ladder rungs for fixed ladders.
Edge protection on construction sites
Construction work falls under OSHA’s Part 1926 rather than the general industry rules. Under 29 CFR 1926.502(j), toeboards used as falling-object protection must be at least 3-1/2″ tall, with no more than 1/4″ clearance above the walking surface, and solid or with openings no larger than 1″. SteelFront bent-leg toe boards and perforated toe boards are 4″ tall and come in lengths from 10″ to 120″. The finished guardrail and toeboard system must be designed and installed by the responsible contractor.
Hardware and small parts
- Hex nut and bolt sets (1″ or 1-1/2″ bolts, packs of 10 to 100) made for our punched products
- Stanchion / leg support lugs: an angle on a 1/4″ baseplate, used as feet for benches, tables and supports
- Bar grating saddle clips for attaching parts to bar grating
- Universal hose reel bracket (11 gauge)
- Forged steel half and full couplings (3000 psi, 1/4″ to 3″)

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between roll-formed and structural angle?
Roll-formed angle is cold-formed from 11 gauge (1/8″) sheet into 1-1/2″ or 2″ profiles. SteelFront’s structural angle is A36 bar-size angle, available in more profiles, up to 3″ x 4″ x 1/4″. Both come punched or unpunched in 1′ to 20′ lengths.
What bolt fits your punched angle?
Our standard punched angle has 0.563″ holes on 2″ centers, sized for 1/2″ bolts. The garage door angle is punched for 3/8″ bolts, with holes 1″ apart on both legs.
What are the toeboard rules on construction sites?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502(j) requires toeboards on construction sites to be at least 3-1/2″ tall, with no more than 1/4″ clearance above the walking surface, and solid or with no opening over 1″. Our toe boards are 4″ tall.
What finishes are available for angle iron?
Roll-formed angle comes in raw or pre-galvanized steel. Structural angle comes in raw or hot dip galvanized steel.
Do you cut angle to length?
Angle is sold in 1′, 2′, 6′, 10′, 15′ and 20′ lengths. Call us if you need a length that isn’t listed.
