Tank shops build to tight schedules, and one late component can hold up a finished vessel. SteelFront supplies storage tank fabrication parts: the standard weld-on and bolt-on parts that go on aboveground steel tanks: lugs, manways, cleanouts, heads, couplings and nameplate brackets. We make them in Hutchinson, Kansas and sell them online with prices shown. Your purchasing team can see the cost before it orders, and your welders get parts that fit the first time.
What fabricators need from a parts supplier
- Weld-ready raw steel: parts that go into the shell before coating should arrive unfinished.
- Configurable openings: manways that match the customer’s drawing instead of forcing a redesign.
- Repeatable fit: covers, frames and gaskets with holes that line up every time.
- Transparent pricing: so you can quote your own customers quickly.
Lugs: welded or unwelded
Most of our lugs come two ways. The unwelded versions ship raw for welding directly to the shell:
- 1-hole lug (0.82 lb, 1/4″ x 4″ x 3″) and 2-hole lug
- Ladder lug with one oblong hole (1.6 lb)
- Lift lug (P-lug) (2.7 lb) for forklift or cable handling
- #6 triangle lug (7 lb)
The welded versions come on a standard 1/4″ baseplate in raw or hot dip galvanized finish, ready to mount. These include the 1-hole, 2-hole, ladder, lift, #6 triangle and D-ring lugs, plus the stanchion / leg support lug for building support structures.
Manways built to your drawing
Our round storage tank manway lets you specify every dimension that matters:
- Diameter: 16″, 18″, 20″, 24″, 30″, or 36″
- Neck length: 4″, 7″, or 12″
- Neck thickness: 1/4″, 5/16″, 3/8″, or 1/2″
- Flange thickness: 1/4″ up to 3/4″
- Flange holes: single or double punched
That’s 864 combinations. Add a matching cover and a 1/8″ Fibreflex gasket in the same diameter. For bottom access, the robotically welded cleanout frame (28″ x 40″ outside, 24″ x 36″ opening) pairs with a 1/4″ or 3/8″ cover and our neoprene gasket roll.
Heads, couplings and connections
The obround tank head is formed from 13 gauge steel (44.25″ x 27.125″ x 1.25″, 30.5 lb), and its formed legs fit around the tank body. It’s commonly used on basement and fuel tanks. For threaded connections, forged steel half couplings (threaded one side) and full couplings (threaded both sides) are rated to 3000 psi and come in pipe sizes from 1/4″ to 3″.
Nameplates, gauges and supports
Nameplate brackets come with legs for welding or without legs for custom mounting, in several gauges and with optional 1/8″ plaque holes. The sight glass U-bar covers gauge glasses. For horizontal vessels, tank saddles are sized for 24″ to 72″ diameter tanks.
Standards your finished tank may need to meet
Two standards come up most often for steel aboveground tanks:
- API Specification 12F covers shop-fabricated, vertical, cylindrical, aboveground welded steel tanks in standard sizes for oil production liquids. API says only tanks built to its requirements may be identified as 12F tanks.
- UL 142 covers steel aboveground atmospheric tanks for flammable and combustible liquids, in cylindrical, rectangular or obround shapes. It excludes tanks covered by API 12D and API 12F.
These standards govern the finished tank, so certification is the fabricator’s job. Our parts give you consistent, documented dimensions to build from.
Access equipment for the tanks you ship
Many fabricators also supply the ladder or stairway. We carry ladder rungs (17-1/2″ to 25-1/2″), 9″ x 26″ bolt-on stair treads, walkway pans, toe boards and punched angle. See Walkways & Stairways.

Frequently asked questions
Do you sell lugs unwelded for shop fabrication?
Yes. The 1-hole, 2-hole, ladder, lift (P-lug) and #6 triangle lugs all come unwelded in raw steel for welding directly to the shell. Welded versions on a 1/4″ baseplate are also available.
How many manway configurations can I order?
The round manway comes in 864 combinations: six diameters (16″ to 36″), three neck lengths, four neck thicknesses, six flange thicknesses, and single or double punching.
What are the dimensions of the obround tank head?
It measures 44.25″ x 27.125″ x 1.25″, weighs 30.5 lb, and is formed from 13 gauge raw steel with formed legs that fit around the tank.
Do your parts make my tank API 12F or UL 142 compliant?
No. Both standards apply to the finished tank and how it’s designed, built and tested. Our parts are components, and certifying the tank is the fabricator’s responsibility. Our 1-hole and 2-hole lugs are made for use on API 12F vessels.
Can I order in production quantities?
Yes. Parts are sold individually online with prices shown, so you can order exactly what a build needs. Call (800) 258-1392 about recurring volume. Configurations we don’t list are handled by Wifco Steel Products, our parent company and manufacturer.
